Medical education as well as graduate education in medicine involve a 6-year to 6-year straight undergraduate study , for instance in the British model ; whereas in the US model, potential medical students are required to possess first degree in life sciences before enrolment in 4 or 5 year (MD) medical programme. Then, for the specialists, the MD or MB BS holders will return to the medical schools for residency that runs from 5 - 9 years depending on the sub-specialties.
Thus, there is urgent need for a financial models to determine financial returns on investments (a unit or average cost analysis) for medical education for two groups; those that stopped with MB BS (MD) and those who did residencies and earn MB BS + FRCS / FRCP . The model will cover the construction of costs and career earnings for 35 years and also 45 years for representatives of each of these two group.
