You need to check the reliability of pilot study data in SPSS software by using value of Cronbach's alpha, KMO and Bartlett's test of sphericity. In addition, you can use factor analysis to test validity of data.

Cronbach's alpha value- Acceptable value, score of over .7 for high internal consistency (Table)

KMO- Therefore according to literature, we should have at least 0.7 KMO (Table)

By adapting the instrument, it is assumed that you have modified it to fit the domain you will want to administer it in. Hence, your concentration should be on the validity and reliability of the instrument. The Cronbach alpha test for internal consistency (reliability), KMO and Bartlett's test will help you in making the instrument fit for your study Just like Dr. Ahmed stated. However, when you get a High value close to 1.0, then some researchers state that factor analysis may be useful for your data, if the value is less than 0.50, then the result of factor analysis probably won't be very useful.

You might want to run an exploratory factor analysis to check if your items load into your constructs the way you expect. Remove low loading and cross loading items and then check the internal reliability of the constructs with Cronbach alpha tests.

You always have to run an exploratory factor analysis before you run CFA. One is the basis for the other. You don't always have to run CFA after an exploratory factor analysis but you do have to run one before doing CFA.
