Microwell seq (Han et al., 2018, Cell, Han et al., Nature 2020) is definitely cheaper than 10x system. There are advantages: The micropillars used for fabricating agarose wells can be used many times. Size of agarose plates can be custom designed. 10000 - 50000 cells can be captured. Doublet rate is comparable with 10x. Most importantly, captured cells can be inspected under microscope.

Apparent disadvantages: need of fabrication. Not that widely used.

There are many papers which compare 10x system with Fluidigm, Smart seq, drop seq and seq well.

Is there any systematic study to compare performance of 10x and microwell systems?

or Does anyone have experience of both of these technologies?
