I'm looking for something that can sit out in dry air for a while, so a hydrogel is probably not the best solution. The closest I've found is trying platinum-cured silicones of different material characteristics. Does anyone have anything they've used before?
The main characteristic I would like to mimic is cuttability.
How much time is "a while"?
What is the ambient temperature?
Is the cuttability of the hydrogel suitable for you?
Imad Disher Basically, it shouldn't require water at all for storage or maintenance. Ambient temperature should be 20-25C, relative humidity probably between 40-70%. Yes the cuttability of the hydrogels has been acceptable, but in terms of cost of maintenance they are not ideal, so I'm looking for other materials.
Silicone elastomer seems to be a good option.
However, modeling wax is also a good candidate, its properties, like hardness color, etc.., can be easily changed by adding petroleum jelly and/or fillers.
