What all can be deduced from the principal stress contours of soil numerical modelling result?

I have a very basic question regarding understanding the changes in the principal stress contours of sigma 1 and sigma 3 in different phases of a staged construction PLAXIS 3D modelling of a reinforced earth wall problem. Can someone please throw some light on how I can get a better understanding of the complexities that are occurring in the model via the principal stress contours?

Principal stresses Contour are line joined by directional vectors of stresses. These are the maximum and minimum stress zone in your geometry. It also give a idea about flow of energy (stress). It would help you to find Plastic deformation in your geometry (occur due to Compression or Tension after application of loads )
