The barracouta (Thyrsites sp.) and the krill Nyctiphanes sp., exhibited the highest read number in every sample for the targeted 16S metabarcoding assay in Jeunen et al., (2018) study. However, eDNA signals were only picked up in a few samples by the “universal” eukaryote (COI) metabarcoding assay and exhibited low read numbers when detected.
