Akito I Sema There are many methods of water purifcaiton depends on the technology selection and water quality to be tested before and after which is very important however few of the technologies which we can list are as follows:

Coagulation or also known as Floculation

Sedimentation is also one of the technology which is used for filtering water

pH Correction is mostly used by various low cost technologies

Common filternation methods based on the tds/cod/bod to be adjusted

Sludge drying is also one of the common method

1) CAPTURE

Capture then transport to the drinking water treatment plant.

2) SCREENING

Passage through grids to stop floating bodies and large waste.

3) SCREENING

Finer filtering is intended to stop smaller waste, sand, plankton, etc.

4) FLOCCULATION – DECANTATION

Pouring of a coagulant product to group the impurities into small packets (flocs) and eliminate 90% of suspended solids.

5) FILTRATION

Filtering of suspended particles that are invisible but still present, carried out on conventional materials (sand) or adsorbents (granular or powdered activated carbon).

Some facilities use membranes capable of filtering minute particles (microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration).

6) DISINFECTION – OZONATION

Neutralization of viruses and pathogenic bacteria then injection of ozone (gas). Sometimes ultraviolet rays are used.

7) SPECIFIC TREATMENT

Adsorption on activated carbon. Refining treatment to eliminate organic matter and improve the organoleptic qualities of the water (flavour, smell, clarity).

8) CHLORINATION

Addition of a tiny amount of chlorine to preserve the quality of the water as it travels through the pipes to reach the taps.

9) STORAGE

Once made drinkable, the water is sent to reservoirs where it is stored before being routed through a network of underground pipes to homes.

In remote villages construction of treatment wetlands is a big advantage. No extra costs are needed. Of course, permanent control over the quality of the treated water is needed.

Main advantage of the wetland construction is in economic efficiency. Making wetland you may introduce local plants that will not be costly. Also, the wetland you make may provide a shelter for various species, including birds.

The disadvantage includes requirement of big areas, which may be not available in every residential area.
