Veeco Dektak 3 surface profilometer timedout error for AD conversion?

We are working on MD-DOS operated Veeco Dektak-3 surface profilometer. While scanning, we are getting an error: Time out for AD conversion and the stylus is not reaching the surface. Could anybody help it out.
