The following shows the classification of the relative age of groundwater based on the tritium activity (Clark and Fritz, 1997).

Dear Rudra

it is not very useful to look only at the 3H-values in the groundwater samples. It only suggests you that the 1-8 TU waters are relatively old in comparison to the 28TU waters. To make a meaningful interpretation out of the data, you need an additional tracer or two, for example:

a) 18O or 2H in both groundwater and precipitation.

b) 3H in precipitation, to see the current 3H input and compare it to the output

c) some hydrochemical tracers that may explain the residence time, for example silica

d) 14C and 13C (in granitic rocks you do not expect much HCO3 and therefore the alteration of carbon isotopes for the water dating should be minor)

With two independent tracers you could refine and verify your Tritium results.
