Transforming Survey scales ?

Hi - I have been working on a project to transform our existing Survey scale which is a 10 point scale to to 5 point scale. I am looking for a validated transformation method to move data from historic 10 point scales to a 5 point scale. As this survey touches suppliers , i need to have a validated standard as proof. Any thoughts on this are highly appreciated.
