I am just wondering if we incubated 200 microliter of whole blood with 50 microliter of cancer cells(1bout 5000cells) do you think that cancer would survive for 48 hours?
I feel survival of cancer cells would not be possible.
When blood is removed from its native environment and incubated for 48 hours, degeneration of blood will set in within hours resulting in hemolysis, cytokine as well as oxidative bursts, activation of platelets and many more such degenerative processes which could create a hostile-like situation for cancer cells to survive.
To be survived Cancer cells due to their un-controlled proliferation need a lot of glucose and amino acids and in your blood sample (200 microliter) there is not enough glucose and amino acids! However, I think if you want to keep cells without media you would be better to use serum or plasma rather than whole blood.
