Question:
Leviticus 11:9-12 states:
"These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you" (Leviticus 11:9-10, KJV).
From a toxicological perspective, is there scientific evidence supporting the exclusion of scaleless and finless aquatic species (e.g., catfish, shellfish) from human consumption due to bioaccumulation of toxins, heavy metals, or microbial contamination? Could this dietary law have had a protective role in reducing exposure to harmful substances in ancient times?
Looking forward to insights from toxicologists and food safety researchers!
