How large is the black distance noted with a question mark?

How far is the distance with question marks on it? There is a river, where you measure at the point out to the right and there is a low screen. The river is green, what is visible is within the dashed lines. The challenge is to find a visible part when there is some shielding.

I found the answer today morning after breakfast and a coffee. Mornings are the best time of the day for solving problems. :-) The figure was cluttered with too much information. I have the shielded distance, s, now and may figure out how the center line shifts away when the river gradually becomes more shielded while moving away from it.
