The term "taxonomy" was coined by Augustin Pyramus de Candolle while the term "systematic" was coined by Carl Linnaeus the father of taxonomy.
"Father of Indian Systematic Botany" is more aptly attributed to William Roxburgh, a Scottish botanist who made extensive contributions to the systematic study of Indian plants.
Hermenegild Santapau (1903-1970) was a Spanish born naturalized Indian Jesuit priest and botanist, known for his taxonomical research on Indian flora. He was credited with the Latin nomenclature of several Indian plant species.
