Today, GIS is being considered the most significant and highly recommended technique in analyzing data and its also argued that in Pakistan too few people use this approach in the analysis of their studies. I require that how much it's significant and if so why too few people use, and also if people use it does it meet the criteria as other econometric techniques are in the frequent practice which involved dense numerics.
Today, in the era of big data and AI, we should consider visualization as an integral part of analysis. Spatial analysis is applied to spatial data in order to reveal spatial patterns and relationships. In this regard, thematic maps and other related (geo)spatial visualization techniques are very useful to present spatial information and gain spatial knowledge because visual information is more easily absorbed than textual data. Lately, (geo)visual analytics term has been used to express the interaction between analysis and visualization.
What is critical here is also to understand spatial relationships and make quick comparisons between different attributes across space. This can be extended to temporal dimension and in this case, spatio-temporal analyses can be performed. I think GIS mapping is one area that is being vigorously applied in econmetrics in recent times. It has a lot of usefulness to economic analysis especially where analysis involves Spatial and Cross section dependence (for example, analysis involving poverty spread might indicate the evidence of Spatial dependence based on contiguity (Olaoye, (forthcoming)).
