I have been having issues culturing H. hepaticus in liquid culture or on agar plates. I have tried pre-made TSA plates w/ 5% sheep's blood, homemade TSA plates w/ 5% sheep's blood, and homemade brucella plates w/ 5% sheep's blood. I have used both a BD GasPak and an Oxoid Anaero jar with Campy sachets to generate the microaerophillic environment. I have also added wet paper towels and tried adding additional media to the plates to increase moisture. For liquid cultures, we have attempted TSA broth w/ 10% FBS on a shaking incubator at 37C also inside of the GasPak environment. We have had absolutely no signs of growth for any of the above methods. Any tips or tricks for culturing this bacteria would be very much appreciated!
