Where can the Pilot study be presented in a formal paper? I'm going to use IMRD mode for my manuscript. Is it better to have it in the introduction? or put it in Method while describing research design? Or any ideas? Thanks.
This is always a tricky decision, and i would say that it depends on the level of detail in the reporting of the pilot study. If you just use the pilot study to 'justify' the approach you have taken, I would probably describe it concisely in a Methods sub-section. If, on the other hand, more detail is required, you could consider putting it the Supplementary information section (and refer to it in the main article), which is offered by many journals (at least in the Natural sciences).
