SWOT Analysis is one of the common and widely used managerial tool for organizational and situational analysis. In past this is commonly used by profit making entities, in these days this tool has been using by not for profit as well as public entities.
The aim of the analysis is to take into account internal and external factors, enhancing the potential of strengths and opportunities, while diminishing the impact of weaknesses and threats.
Strengths:
Strengths are desirable internal factors which are under organizational control or the country, and which provide foundations for the future. They may be aspects of proud, well managed fields, availability and accessibility of resources, renounced and proficient expertise, geographical proximity or suitability etc.
Weakness: At the same time weaknesses are undesirable internal elements, which are controlled by the organization, and for which key improvements can be made. They may be poor practices and culture, fields agreeable to improvements, an unpleasant image, deficit of resources, an hostile geographical location and structure etc.
Opportunities:
Opportunities are the external supportive possibilities which can be helpful for achieving organizational objectives in the prevailing strengths and weaknesses. They are often beyond the influence of internal management examples are expanding economic fields in which the country can market its expertise, difficulties in a competitor country which can become opportunities to expand its share of the market, new multilateral agreements easing the flow of goods and people, important priorities of certain donors supporting the development of specific sectors etc.
Threats:
Threats are external limitations which can prevent or impede the desired organizational objectives. Threats are often beyond the control of internal management examples are recessive economic fields, the development of violent, international agreements hindering the organizational objectives, climatic change and its consequences etc. Zahra Rajaeian
