I conducted survey and the first variable in the questionnaire is about nightlife activities and it includes five questions. then the question is in likert item that is, the respondents will check if it is always sometimes or never. Then I want to know the relationship of hours they sleep at night and the nightlife activities. The hours is in interval scale. That is i code 1 for 9 -10 hours 2 for 11 - 12 hours and so on. What is the test applicable for this? please help! And if I want to know the impact of gender in the relationship, what test should I use? please help! i'm really confused.
One way to look at this is the regression analysis. You can test statistically whether there is relationship or not. Since you are looking at a time range just try with the median of the time range. (ex 9-10 you can consider 9.5 as the median. Night activities should be in quantitative value. For example never=0 and some times =1.
There are some specific statistical analysis for descriptive sampling. Hope you will get a better answer from somebody.
Strength- Spearman rho, significance- t-test of relationship, or
Strength- Cramer's V, significance- chi-square test of independence

You could also perform comparisons in a contingency table (and definitely not by chi²).
However, regarding your question (and the answers you have already got), I would like to be sure I understand correctly your problem. In order to do so, please state which variable is your dependent variable and which variable(s) is/are your dependent variable(s).

It is Rank Correlation, using Spearmans rho test to establish 1. If there is rank correlation (i.e. if significant), 2. if there is correlation whether the correlation is positive or negative. Can then undertake regression of sorts (but need to establish dependent/independent variables)
