One of the problem is the number of variables applied in for example regression model and level of significance. Some researchers suggest that .05 (level of significance often used in social sciences) should be then divided by a number of predictors (independent variables).
I will be happy to see a pure statistics study comparing the different types of correlations such as Pearson, Spearman, Point biserial etc., The books claim that each one of these has parameters and assumptions, but in reality and in quick analysis for different types of variables all give almost the same results (lets say very close)!! Therefore, it will be a good study to examine this issue and give recommendations.
