Hello,

pressure p (intensive) and volume V (extensive) are thermodynamic state variables - independent on the way how a state was achieved.

pdV =W is work and NOT a state variable, but a process variable - and depends on the way it was achieved. .

What is the physical rationale that combining 2 thermodynamic state variables (NO relevance how it was achieved) gives a process variable W (essential how the state was achieved) ?

Regards

Lothar
