The problem is the aluminum oxide. This material is a ceramic. In this sense dont have electrical conductivity and its hardness is very high. For this reason is difficult to cut with EDM and milling respectively.
I think that an good option may be the abrasive water jet cutting, if you dont need high precision in the cutting surface.
I am working on the assumption that it comes to the separation of the casting at the gate, that is it need not be paid to the quality of cut. Then a separating with line cutting should be possible. For this special case, one can use higher pulse durations and higher current amplitudes. A reworking of the interface is necessary in any case.
Aluminium Oxide (Ceramic) is the major problem. Its poor conductivity is the issue. Cut with high current and voltage settings. In any case, only Aluminium component of the material will be cut and spark transitivity will be improved and ceramic may remain unaffected.
Try to change electrical polarity, and put the casting part as cathode (-) and increase power, because as you known this problem does not exist in Diesinking EDM
