There is literature about the velocity of microglial processes movement in response to injury within the CNS, however I am looking for information on the timeframe/velocity of whole microglial cell movement (cell body included). As in, how fast can microglia migrate from a given location?
Edit: does this whole cell movement purely occur when microglia are in amoeboid form?

Dear Kristie,
I believe that most microglia in the brain are resident cells, and microglia are located all around the brain forming a dense network. Microglia usually do not need to migrate long distances and often the movement may be primarily limited to processes. The local microglia can respond to local signals/threats pretty quickly within minutes. This is what I see in acute brain slices and for an example please see Fig 8 in my 2016 Neural Plasticity paper listed here at RG.
