we need to identify phytophthora and verticilium species .. is ITS the only barecode to use? is it possible to identify at the species level this genus without sequencing? is there conventional PCR species specific primers to use ?
It's not my field or my topic, but a cursory lit search seems to show people have used COI for Phytophthora.

Search for CONSERVED REGION of the particular species on GenBank, then design PCR primer on that region.

Mitochondrial genes COI, Cyt b and NADH are widely used for the purpose of DNA barcodes. Designing few sets of primers for above mentioned genes and validating them on closely related species might be a good idea.

COI are more efficient for insect-animals species identifcation yet fungi are also "fetched" by COI, thank you for those who points on COI it makes me thinking of ways ...
