In science there is always a push to be precise.  And now with thousands of articles being published daily, and the need for proper indexing and use of search terms to assure that the research we undertake is based on the published record should we make sure we use the most precise terminology?  Endospores are defined as  "a dormant, tough, and non-reproductive structure produced by certain bacteria from the Firmicute phylum" (Wikipedia) and it is also known to contain dipicolinic acid.  If a research article reporting on endospores, only uses 'spore' (a term applying to many types from very different organisms and with various functions) in the text and keywords, it seems to me that the article is more likely to be overlooked by researchers and potentially lead to confusion about the work.  I am interested in comments, suggestions and links to any literature that has discussed this problem.  Thanks for any input!
