Many researchers say that a research work can't be carried out alone, it must be done in a group. While others claim that a good researcher must carry out his research work independently. Specifically, for research engineers, is it possible to carry out any research alone?

HI.... I am not a research engineer, so perhaps different in that world.....But i have been a Private Investigator for about 10 different studies.... Some I have done by myself while others with a Research team . I personally prefer the Team approach in that it helps to have numerous eyes to help design the study methodology, as well as the final analysis of the data as well as the discussion of findings & hopefully recommendations for the future....Pretty much a personal preference... unless trying to find funding/grants. In the US the Federal Funding Agencies prefer a Team Approach...
Where possible - research should be conducted as a team. There is always the 'suspicion' of research bias with independent researchers. It essentially comes down to best impact for proving research rigour. The more 'member-checking' there is - the better the claim for validity and reliability (quantitative) and trustworthiness (qualitative) outcomes.
If an article is non-research i.e. conceptual or opinion - then there is more scope for a single author.
I am actually searching for any research report regarding the paper writing with multiple authorship. Is it mandatory that a researcher should have an article written alone?
Interesting Question Muhibul - not to my knowledge - other than my dissertation for my Ph.D....... but there may be more to your question.... Multiple Authors in terms of the actual writing up of the research or even a conceptual paper can be fraught with politics... Is that what you are trying to address?
