I see a new term on RG statistics page "Total Research Interest":What does this interpret?

"Total Research Interest" is some new index. Can someone explain what does this imply? Maybe its a simple entity but iam not aware of this. Regards

What I think is Dithiothreitol. As it is water-soluble and does not form a precipitate. But, the thing is it contains sulphur which is quite hazardous to aquatic animals.
