There is a large store of several of the GLUT proteins internalised in many cell types. These can be activated by various stimuli to associate with the plamsa membrane and begin importing/exporting glucose. I am curious to know whether they actually bind glucose in this state and thus may form a local store of glucose the cell could utilise without having to break it down from more complex compounds.

I can find no references to support this, any help would be appreciated.
