I use heat-inactivated sera for my cell culture experiments. The main goal of the heat-inactivation is to inactivate the complement system. I have now decided that it would be best to dialyze serum instead of heat-inactivation. This decision is due to the fact that I am interested in studying the metabolism of cells, and the serum usually contains a lot of non-quantified metabolites such as glucose, lactate, etc.
I realized that there are several dialyzers that can be used depending on the molecular weight cut off.
Could you provide any experience/knowledge on this issue? It would be much appreciated if you can back-up your suggestions with references.

Bear in mind that some cell lines do not require or do not change the growth or other characteristics of the culture, and also could have some adverse effects. I recommend the following read. Nevertheless, I am not sure about alternatives for heat inactivation of serum. Hope helped. Good luck.
