It looks like IF is officially calculated by Institute for Scientific Information, ISI and anybody presenting it - is actually using their calculation, other sources try to use similar metrics and usually call them differently from IF - as it is officially the ISI's term. For example Scopus uses SNIP - Source normalised impact per paper or SJR - Scimago Journal Ranking with quartiles - all of them are journals metrics simiar to IF which is WoS/ISI's and belonging to Clarivate Analytics now.

It looks those metrics taking over us ))) we used to write lengthy reports on our research and other activities every year - not it is just one line with boxes - H-index, number of citation, IF, Q?, indexation and that's it )))

It is simple. The term "Impact Factor"(IF) was originally used in the 1960s by Eugene Garfield, who started the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) (now part of Clarivate Analytics). IF has gained acceptance worldwide as a numerical index of journal quality. Scopus, GoogleScholar, RresearchGate, etc. are late comers. Note that only WoS use the term "Impact Factor". Scopus uses "CiteScore" , GoogleScholar, "i10-index", and ResearchGate, "RG score".

Note that RG also give the IF of journals if you type Researchgate followed by the name of the journal

If the journal indexation by RG is sufficient RG will give an IF

Thank you Gil Mahe and Salim for your comments. ResearchGate uses the phrase "RG Journal Impact", and this cannot be equated with ":Impact Factor" of Clarivate Analytics, which is based on WoS. RG Journal Impact is calculated using ResearchGate data.

I compared the IF of WOK SCOPUS and RG they all propose a counting based on the same formula.

The values with RG are higher than that with SCOPUS and WOK as RG indexes much more publications.

I want to attract your atention for very important point, in fact the H index of google scholar is more useful because it take into account citation in books and docs in websites , however the citation using "IF" only the papers are considered, which can lose a lot of authors endeavors.

The IF of RG also takes into account all the publications the have been uploaded by the researchers
