Quality works are most times the meritors of citations and not who one is as a scientist or professor. Since the latter (professors) research and writes more, they are the most cited. Citation records referred to by respected colleagues are substantive evidences to this.

I think, Professor Menachem Elimelech from Department of Environmental Engineering, Yale University is the highest scorer of citation, 69577 of his all publications. Please find his google scholar citation records in the following link.

It is not a rule... it depends upon all the factors mentioned: research, citations, recommendations, interaction (followers, questions, answers).

I praised RG on many occasions, I like it for many reasons, and I'm trying to actively participate in its activity. However, there is one deficiency of the RG technology that I do not like and do not understand the reasons behind. If one open my RG profile, section Overview states that I have 14 citations, also if one opens section Scores it states that my h-index is 2. Look at the pictures (click on each one to enlarge) from my Google Scholar account to see the difference. I have in RG and Google Scholar pretty much identical list of my publications and it is a long time puzzle to me what are the reasons for this discrepancy. It seems like RG is quite weak in assessing those parameters.

On what platform since many platforms do not have the same journals in their database. Google Scholar citations are for the most part, higher than all the platforms I know because it is the most liberal. Scopus citations are the least because it is the least liberal. Researchgate citations are in the mid-point. So, a scientist with the highest citation counts in Google Scholar might not hold the same position on Scopus platform. So please specify for clarity and better service.

Yes, RG citations is quite low compared to the Google citations, main reason is RG citations counts only the article uploaded in RG by authors.

Academics have different areas of interest, specialization, comparative advantage, and strength.

Published papers in the medical and biological sciences e=seem to attract the largest number of Citations on any website.

Compelling explanations would seem to be the large number of co-authors and the number of pages, which is far fewer than published papers in business, social sciences, and the humanities.
