Nowadays, I am researching into scientific collaboration inside academic social networks. I consider that kind of collaboration is focused on improving skills, sharing knowledge, resources and experiences and interacting with other researchers for getting help in projects or research. What do you understand by scientific collaboration?

In my opinion, the importance and use of social media portals in the development of scientific cooperation is growing. Thanks to such portals as the Research Gate portal and other scientific social media portals, it has been possible to search the Internet for other researchers and scientists who conduct research in a specific field of interest to us, a scientific discipline. In addition, thanks to scientific and other social media portals, it is possible to establish and develop international research teams that work on a specific international research project. In my opinion, thanks to the use of social media portals to develop communication in the world of science, the concept of scientific cooperation acquires a new meaning. Social networking in such research-based platforms is important and useful. It helps sharing knowledge, networking, exchanging information, non-stop learning, and developing collaboration.
Scientific collaboration is more complex than practical day to day collaboration because of high abstraction level of knowledge that need to be transferred from one collaborator to another. Snowden (2002) say that "we can always know more than we can tell, and we will always tell more than we can write down", so social network through codified/explicit media (like internet social media) will less effective in transferring knowledge (but more effective in disseminating knowledge). Real life social network (or COP) will be more effective in transferring knowledge quickly. There are also probability to store knowledge tacitly within the social network (real life) itself. I wonder is there any way to measure or manage knowledge that stored within real life social network?

What type of analysis? The graph I show above is only the main/giant component of all of the data I downloaded. There were more 6000 researchers in the original download, with many small, disconnected clusters.

Scientific collaboration can only be measured in results; these can be: joint publications, public conferences, courses, interviews, videos. The aim of any collaboration is to widen the discourse community for a certain scientific problem, to be researched and published. In this sense, scientific collaboration is effective communication via the scientific method.
I agree the Mr. Stephen I. Ternyik point of view. Academic social networks allows one to learn from each other about the skills of researchers and enrich their own methodological capacities. In the medium term, glimpsing the possibility of joint publications or academic exchange between institutions can be outstanding objectives of a higher nature.
