I prepare Schiff base; firstly lemons color appear, after 4 hrs "i forget it more than 1 hour" the color change to brown; are their a relationship between time and color?
I would agree with the two answers above: the question in my mind is what else on the desired product could react or is the product itself sensitive relative to its precursors?
If the reaction proceeds entirely to the product (100%) I do not see why the colour will change. How reactive is benzocaine with respect to aniline? I feel that reaction is slow and the reactant benzocaine decomposes in solution to brown. In order to test this hypothesis you can do a control study. Add a small amount of benzocaine in the solvent and see whether the colour of the solution changes after few hours. If it turns brown then you know where the problem is. If it does not we have to think in different direction.
