I am a new researcher and employ ABAQUS to analyse steel bar buckling through Riks algorithm, and concerning the stopping criteria, I want to ask a question. Since when we edit "step", we can specify as much as three stopping criterion: Maximum load proportionality factor, Maximum displacement, and the maximum number of increments. But, since we can also define a displacement along certain direction when we impose displacement control to the model, I want to know whether the displacement I defined is another stopping criteria of Riks? If not, what is the significance of defining a displacement?

As far as I know, the step does not stop when you reach your "input" displacement (when the LPF reaches 1). Loading the bar with a displacement is simply an alternative to applying a load, which can be quite usefull in many cases. If you want the step to end when you reach your defined displacement, you can either do this by setting the maximum LPF to 1, or by defining the displacement stop criterion with the displacement you input.
Yes, you are quite right ! It really works as you said, but since we can do the displacement control in step edition by giving the LPF or the maximum displacement , then, what the value for displacement in "load module"should be set? can you tell me some clues about this?
