I'm a student with an engineering background, and I'm looking to familiarize myself with Zemax and ANSYS for my undergraduate research project, which is my final year project. Could anyone provide guidance on where I can find resources to learn this software effectively and improve my skills in optical system design? I'd appreciate fair suggestions, as I'm new to optics and Zemax.
For decades, Zemax has been a leading software in optical design. It is a powerful and versatile tool for any kind of optical systems with vast number of features and readily available objects to be used. Yet there are instances where you may find that certain features are missing or not quite aligning with your specific needs. In such cases, it’s time to consider harnessing the potential of user-defined custom features.
Hi Muhammad, You have given yourself a challenge to learn optical design and apply it in a year! Zemax has many tutorials to help you get started. Go to File>Open>Open>Short course, for example. With regards the fundamentals, I'd recommend Modern Lens Design (McGraw-Hill Professional Engineering) by Warren J Smith and Lens Design Fundamentals by Rudolph Kingslake. Good luck.
I might be able to help you with Zemax but I have no idea what ANSYS is.
If you look at my published work over the last 30 or so years - much of the work has been supported and/or documented in ZEMAX, starting with the design of the MSTI-3 optics and continuing to my recent HEIFTS 2 paper.
We would have to converse quite a bit more for me to me to give you any specific directions. In order to navigate to a new place you first have to understand where you are.
