I have drifting buoy data only with locations (Latitude and Longitude). Is it possible to find out the current speed and current from the same ??
Are there any toolboxes to process the data, basically to extract the speed and direction.
Hi Samiran Mandal , I've prepared an R Code for calculating the speed from longitude and latitude values at time steps. Please have a look at it, i think it will keep you going.
Make sure you load the specified packages and convert the units of speed accordingly, here i have kept it as m/s in an hourly sample created data.
The function takes the cordinates in WGS 84.

Great answer Mohammed, I learned about R code today. But how would you also get direction?
Sure Jacob, I had to look up a bit, but here's an R Script for calculating the direction from GPS coordinates.
Just load your Lat and Lon array from your input data and Change the length of the loop manually, and you're done.
Note: The length of my loop is 27, as I have 28 points of latitudes and longitudes.
