I have prepared activated carbon from locally available source . I am getting higher surface area around (1000+ m2/g) but the adsorption capacity is too less around 20mg/g for a dosage of 0.5g/100 ml of 50ppm . What could be reason for lesser adsorption capacity???

I suppose surface of your AC is somehow functionalized, thus adsorption capacity is low. Could you briefly provide some details on methodology of AC preparation and surface area measurement? It will help to study the problem more complex.

Here is the procedure !
Biomass is manually mixed with 85% Ortho Phos. Acid in a ratio 1:0.8=> Kept for overnight Drying=> Then sample placed in muffle furnace for 1 hr at 300 deg C => cooled => further washing till pH 7 and drying to get the end AC.

I do understand your approach with 1:0.8 ratio H3PO4 treatment. Then, I face some troubles.
1. I do not understand your definition of "kept for overnight drying". Have you stirred suspension there to allow penetration of H3PO4 into material (hint - apart from stirring, you may use ultrasonication)? Was your material powdered or crushed to smaller particles? It will be even better not only to crush material, but also sieve it to obtain uniform size distribution of particles. Here are some useful papers:

2. I suppose that 1 h in muffle furnace at 300 deg C are not generally used conditions for material carbonization, since thermal decomposition of material may occur with the presence of oxygen. Minimum conditions for pyrolysis is Nitrogen atmosphere, 450-500 deg.C for 1h. Please, find these links as useful:
