For a fractional open circuit voltage MPPT method using a boost converter , how open circuit voltage of the PV panel can be sensed at a regular interval?
The open-circuit voltage of the PV is always mentioned in the module nameplate and you can easily calculate the total open circuit voltage of your system regarding your connection way
Open circuit voltage of a PV panel changes with temperature and irradiance. So value of open circuit voltage should be updated in regular interval. In a boost converter how can i stop giving energy to the converter and measure open circuit voltage of the pv panel ?
One reason people rely on the manufacture data is inability measure it at certain circumstance, as you have already mentioned. Often parameters which are vary with other variables/parameters are given at different values of the depended variables. Also, often some rules of thumb, approximation, are used in industry. Apparently, as long as you have access to a separate panel which is not connected to a converter, you may even measure the open circuit voltages at certain range of values of the dependent parameters.
In order to control to the maximum output point, it is also good to control the solar cell output voltage to be about 80% of the output voltage of the data sheet in the IV characteristics of the Si solar cell without measuring the open circuit voltage regularly. Probably. Fine adjustments such as 80% or 85% can be calculated from the data sheet.
1- If your system can tolerate a brief cut in the power source, in this case you disconnect the panel - through a relay or an electronic circuit - to measure its Voc.
2- If your system must be supplied continuously, in this case you switch to another energy source then you disconnect your panel to measure its Voc
