Hillis has a point.  Much of the fallout would be based on how long the problem lasted.  DNS, which allows us to connect to machines by name without knowing the exact IP address, has had issues in the past that made parts of the internet unreachable.  There is some fault tolerance/redundancy within DNS, but it is far from perfect.  Cables being cut also have brought the internet down for areas of countries/world - again by accident.

If the outage were to be long term (weeks, months, longer) and global in nature, all the worst case scenarios come into play.

We have four alternatives of internet connections as:

1. Wi-Fi

2. Campus wide network

3. Lease line

4. BSNL Package

5. Any of the private pack

If one fails, switch to another and use!

Thank you for your interest. I am not talking about the physical connection of Internet. I am talking about www. There is a chance to stop the Internet services someday. Then what will happen? What if the people do not have the facility of Internet ?

I was 43 years old when the internet came to my country & I just survived without it all the preceding years. Many times after its arrival, I either faced internet closures or electricity cut-offs or computer crashes but I also managed to survive. The internet is fine but the human beings are up to the challenge if the internet says good-bye someday. However, I think that the internet's top managers must have a back-up arrangement to prevent it from total collapse.

i think no progress in the scientific researches and there is no experience interchange between the scientists. the power of scientific researches is by the power of internet

Although with its attendant limitations and demerits, the Internet has become a beneficial and veritable tool to our livelihood.

Life without internet will make;

An interesting question in an age where the Internet plays an integral part of everyday life, business and society! So what are the implications of a life without the internet?We use the Internet to communicate more than ever and it’s become an integral part of any standard means of communication. So with no Internet our means of communication would have to adapt. I very much doubt we’ll be sending smoke signals, but letters would fulfil the hole e-mails left and phones would fulfil the gaps that instant messaging, chat and social media created.

An increase in posted mail and phone calls would surely benefit our local postal services and telephone network providers, but what we loved about the Internet was that communication was free!

So it’s a possible exaggeration to assume we’d all crack out the pens and paper, start licking stamps and calling everyone we know. Further more we would probably resort to basics, that remain free and simply go ‘talk’ to friends and family.

Agreed that Internet is expanding & connecting more & more people & machines globally through technological improvement in areas like IPv6, IoT, VXLAN / NVGRE, more secured VPN, more computing, storage & throughput powers, more application / use cases for cloud, software defined infrastructure, big data analytics etc., Internet becomes more fragile as vulnerability & exposure becomes more prevalent. 

Hence, each of us that supply / use / leverage on Internet resources needs to do our part on our portion of IT in terms of Disaster Recovery (DR) Planning / Testing and Security Protection.  In fact, some of these initiatives are triggered by company, industrial or regulatory compliance with certain SLA / KPI to achieve / to be audited.  Part of the DR also include the study & practice on how we do business / live our lives without Internet or IT.  Hope these initiatives can be the Plan B in case the Internet is down / no longer available.

Life without internet may be more simpler and more happier. Fewer people we can connected to, but we'll spend much more time on the people that nearby. Maybe they are indeed the most important ones.

As time goes by, we tend to get more and more dependent on the internet and the great profit that it offers in every field of activity. Modern science & technology have offer subsequent benefits in every areas & so to say the world become a small place for communication ,exchange of ideas & communication or any part of the world as become a door steps.

Life without Internet ,human beings have being totally confused as they have become the slave of Internet at the same time we cannot afford to close our eye on Internet .

If it is a political map our social fabrics ,our corporate world ,academic areas last but not the least the progressive development of science ,& internet working to find out the research programme now days can not be possible without INTERNET.

With such useful integrity of INTERNET , are we at this stage not feeling & not considering that how much injustice in the initial stage of the children development in their study programme ?

It is the fact that instant of the working with the mind ,INTERNET has become the mind of the children totally mechanical at the initial stage of their study .

This is my personal opinion 

Life without internet is much more interesting, much more fun and much more real life. We are using internet because we have to, because others do, because they want us to. We can only enjoy real life once internet is gone.

I would not mind. Life is movement, communication and love. Internet is and should be just a tool. Tools can be replaced.

By the way my library will not disappear.
