Quick and easy method to see if cholesterol accumulation in brain tissue?

I suspect that my mouse model might have some issue with cholesterol metabolism in their brains. Before committing to spending thousands on lipidomics or mass spec is there a good way to get a sense of whether there is something weird going on with cholesterol accumulation in their white matter?
