Hi all, am I right in thinking that there is no qPCR assay for Stro-1?
I have found assays for SDF-1 (CXCL12) but I have been unable to find the gene or protein sequence (or assay) for Stro-1. I assume that this protein remains uncharacterised?

I would agree that Stro-1 is probably a cell surface marker and nobody has ever detrmined the amino acid or mRNA sequence, so there is no Gene Symbol. Ashokan I have searched EMBL and PubMed hence my question. Not sure what you mean by "wet work".
Mark, thanks for the info I will check it out - if that is the Zhang paper I found the target that they call "Sto-1" is in fact "SDF-1" = CXCL12: (I have checked also to see who has done qPCR previously before I asked on here).
I suspect (as Mark says) that the gene/protein target has not yet been identified (which is also why the ab's for Stro-1 I have looked at are raised against CD34+ cells (I also checked immunogens for these antibodies) and they seem to be IgM's rather than IgG's))
If I do find any info I will put it on here so others can benefit.

Addendum: One recent paper appears to describe Stro-1 as CD44:

I can't access the full article (pay-walled) so I can't see why they would make this claim (several other papers/books describe these two markers as separate entities).
I suspect that the above paper is actually a rather embarrassing mistake - although if it is why it was not picked up by peer review is a mystery....

I think they are just referring to Stro-1+ and CD44+ double positive cells.

Ahh.. my bad. Thanks Mark much appreciated. As I only wanted to get a hydrolysis probe assay for this marker, and it has already consumed as much time as setting one up, I think I will drop this hunt now.

Hi Farkas I'm afraid not. We kind of dropped this now. I don't think this gene has been sequenced (hence no primers or probes to it).
Also the antibodies to this gene all appear to be IgM and raised against cells rather than purified proteins and fragments.
The antibody we used also gave rather strange results . I am now rather deeply suspicious of papers etc claiming Stro-1 positivity.
