I made purple macckonecky agar media but I couldn't interpret the results as some plates show no growth, some plates color change to yellow and some show growth with no change in coloration
Traditional MacConkey agar has bile salts which are there to inhibit the growth of many non-enteric bacteria. The color indicator will depend upon what sugar is used in the medium. Again traditionally it has been lactose (since E. coli is a lac fermentor) but you can use other sugars as well. Lac+ would be bright pink and Lac- would be more yellow. But again it would depend on which fermentable sugar you added.
