I need some information related to publication in open access journals or in ordinary journals with special issue is just like joke one of my professor told.
Is it so in reality, if yes, then why open access journals are ranked as Q1 etc, with impact factor more than 3 or 4.
Your suggestions should be appreciated.
I am not sure whether I understand the first part of your question clearly. However, in order to publish in special issues, you may need an invitation from the editor of the special issue. Choosing OA journals for publication must be done while giving an additional attention for deceptive journals. You have to avoid these publications!
Yes, journals are also categorised based on the quartile structure. For example, quartiles assigned for journals can be seen in the SJR website, which are also limited for the Scopus indexed journals. I believe that WoS also determine quartiles for the journals indexed in it. Moreover, it seems that the quartile levels are based on Impact Factor quartile for WoS, while SJR quartile is based on the ranking based on the SJR value. Thus, one can find different quartile levels for the same journal when it is based on WoS calculation and SJR calculation.
To simply explain, some professor does not like OA publications and they think that OA publications have no value.
Is it so .. OR .....OA publications are still valuable like other free journals
Muhhamad - this is an often-asked question on RG. Open access does not 'automatically' mean low quality. That is the debate for 'predatory journals' - and that is very wrll established on RG already. I am an Associate Editor for BMC Public Health. It is an established and reputable journal. That is why it is ranked. If your professors 'don't like open access' - what is their criteria?

The author may decide on this option. There is no difference between an issue that is a regular issue or a "special issue" in a journal. A special issue is usually covering one theme/topic, and if the subject of your research not related to the Special issue theme, you will not be able to select such an option.
In most journals, you will need to discuss with the Guest Editor, of a "Special Issue" and communicate with him/her, because they have pre-planned schedule covering the submission of title, abstract, the first version of the manuscript, and revision time. This is not the case when submitting to a normal/regular issue.
