I am modeling the strengthening of reinforced concrete beams with FRP. I am using shell281 to model FRP. In the material modeling phase, I entered the nine needed properties for orthotropic martial (E,PR,G in the three directions). I defined also the thickness and fiber direction of FRP.
Now, based on the FRP orientation on the beam (0,45,90) the direction of properties like Young Modulus for example will be different according to fiber direction. In some cases for example EX will the larger value, and in other cases EY will be the larger value.
My question is: How one can relate between:
1- Fiber direction defined in SECDATA.
2- Properties of orthotropic material entered in material modeling.
Should I alter the directions of material proprieties in material modeling each time I using a different orientation of FRP on the beam?
Should I assign a local coordinate system for the shell element each time I using a different orientation of FRP on the beam?
Or, ANSYS itself will relate between the fiber direction defined in SECDATA with directions of material proprieties defined in material modeling.
I am really confused and need any one who can clarify this issue for me.
