For required power calculations of Agitators,selection of the type of impeller is very important to achieve required agitation power. Selection of impeller is done based on application and type of flow. Flat paddle, turbine, anchor type, pitched blade impellers are used most commonly. For given type of agitation flat paddle impeller is used as given below: After selection of impeller dimensionless number Reynold’s number is calculated as given below
Re = ρ*N*d5/ µ
From generic agitator curve, as shown in attached figure . impeller power number is calculated based on calculated Reynold’s number. Power number against Reynolds number of some turbine impellers
Also ,Agitator Speed , N =Q / ( Nq x D x D x D ),
From this Agitator Speed, calculate the Reynold's Number, Nre = D x D x N x rho / myu. ... Power required ( P ) = Np x rho x N^3 x D^5
Watt = Power Number x Density x Agitator speed3 x Rotor Diameter5
P=NpN3ṗD5, and Np=📷 P/ρm3
Where
P = Rotor power, Watt Np = Power Number ρ = Density of liquid, kg/m3 n3 = Rotor/agitator speed measured in revolutions / second D5 = Rotor/impeller diameters in meters
