Dr.Subir is right. Please provide more info as suggested by him Simply putting the berries is not enough. You have removed calyx also which is also equally diagnostic in identiication of Solanums.
It is not possible to identify its species only with the help of fruits. So, please provide a flowering/fruiting twig along with mature leaves and size of mature fruit.
You have to write to Scientist Incharge, SAIF, CSIR-CDRI, Janakipuram Extension, Lucknow. 226031. He will inform you about the whole process. Once MS/MS is run, I will analyse data to mark the species.
The Solanaceae Source server was down. It is working now.
I landed into trouble by not knowing that Solanum muricatum was published twice by different authors.
I have checked the link of Plant List where Solanum muricatum Aiton has been shown to be accepted name. It has also shown to be a accepted name in Solanaceae Source. There is no mention of Solanum muricatum Bertero ex Dunal in Plant List.
What I want to emphasize that we should not blindly believe Plant List in finding out the accepted names. On the other hand Solanaceae Source is personally maintained by Dr. Sandra Knapp who is a world expert of this group. So we can definitely rely on the data given in this site for Solanaceae.
Syamala please provide some basic information needed for identifying the Solanum.I already mentioned earlier.Pllease do so to enable us othewise guess work will continue.
Sir, the plant is very short with spines. fruits are yellow with green 'venation', fruit wall is covered with minute hairs (pubescent). spines are less in number over the calyx. fruits are ~22 x 25 mm and ~350 brown seeds, discoid with ~2.5 mm size.
