I am giving planetary lesson as part of general physics class-first time I give this class- and while presenting the trajectory equation for planets-using classic Newtonian law in 2D polar coordinates- A student asked my : but how do we obtain eccentricity and I answered : empirically, we measure eccentricity.
However ,I am really not confident with my answer to that question, I am definitely going back to my textbooks , but as I am doing that do you know if I was mistaken ? Thank you
and how do you answer the question why is the trajectory an ellipse? Why not a circle? The masses do not change, but the forces of gravity change, creating an ellipse.
а как вы ответите на вопрос почему траектория эллипс ? почему не окружность? Массы не меняются, а силы притяжения меняются создавая эллипс
Thanks for the answer, but then the trajectories of all the planets in the Solar System would be the same shape and elongated in the same direction, but this is not the case.
Спасибо за ответ, но тогда траектории всех планет в Солнечной системе были бы одинаковой формы и вытянуты в одном направлении, но этого нет.
