One option would be to ask one or two more experienced research colleagues to review it (or at least to give you some feedback on it, even if less systematic). This is what I would recommend, whenever possible. For students I woud recommend asking a professor you have worked with (especially if you have been active in his/her seminars, workshops etc).

The other option is to ask some experts in your field for a quick look and opinion. I would make sure I don't ask too much from them since they are under no obligation (professional or moral) to spend time on this. Still, some of them will be sympathetic  and try to help.

Apart from this, it is always helpful to read carefully the reviewer guidelines of the journal you have in mind (some journals have designed their own guidelines, others will send you to the general guidelines of the publisher). This will help you approach your own manuscript from the perspective of a potential reviewer, and some problems or gaps will immediately become more visible.
