Can you suggest some technical analysis software for stock markets? It should make use of some machine learning like ANNs and/or optimization techniques such as Genetic Algorithm to provide future price of a given stock. Ideally it should be able to get a free data provider to it and to update it regularly
It depends actually, however there are many softwares u can use like WEKA, R, SPSS, Matlab etc. for academic purposes matlab is ok but for development i would suggest WEKA or R.
I used MetaTrader (windows) platform with demo account. (http://www.metaquotes.net/)
It has many built-in and downloadable technical indicators and other tools (trendlines, Fibonacci-levels, etc.). Many brokers adapted this software to their own product palette (forex, stock, derivatives, commodities), and they offer demo accounts too.
It has a so called backtest feature (Strategy tester) wich has an Optimization option. This optimization is implementing a genetic algorithm to find the best combination of parameters of a trading strategy or trading algorithm (expert advisor). It has not built-in ANN capabilities, but through it's API you can write an expert advisor which calls external ANN codes. ANNs stored in DLL files can easily imported as functions into the code, but it is possible to call ANNs through executable files, like .jar-s for example.
Once you have a demo account, you may download large amount of data from the MetaQuotes server or from your broker's server in the History Center. (From 1 minute data to monthly data.)
Demo accounts are usually free.
A good option is MetaTrader, besides it does not provide an API to integrate, but it is very complete in terms of functionalities.
A new option, for HFT, is Sentosa.
