I have synthesized a membrane and used for separation CO2/CH4, now I'm going to investigate of productive impact on Environment with Life cycle assessment attitude via SimaPro software, On what basis do we select a appropriate model in LCA software?
Your question is not clear. When you ask "On what basis do we select a appropriate model in LCA software?" ...its not clear which model you are refering to? In SimaPro the users create the models. Do you mean the Impact assessment methods or the processes? It will be better if you could rephrase the question.
Dear Eshagh, in order to select an appropriate LCIA methodology, the following should be taken under consideration: region of the study, fate calculation and major points considered on the methodology. Depending on the region you are, you won't be able to use a regionalized LCIA methodology and will need to adapt. Another important point, that has been used lately in new publications is the use of not only one methodology but several. This is due to the form the methodologies calculate its respective impacts, thus, some methodologies do a better job than others. For instance, one should use IPCC for climate change (GWP and GTP). Moreover, it is important to use new methodologies if you are not going to develop your own (IPCC 2013 instead of IPCC 2006, for example), this of course if you have in mind a publication.
However, it is important to understand the goal of your work. Is your work a Life Cycle Assessment that has an experimental background to help out the LCA? Or is your work a experimental work that has LCA to help elucidate the major environmental problems, but not entirely focused on them? The first would require a careful selection of your methodology, while the other not that much. Which environmental impact categories are you going to analyze? I hope my answer was somewhat helpful and if you need anything please get in touch.
